Utah Valley University (UVU) today announced New York Times bestselling fantasy and science fiction author and Utah resident Brandon Sanderson will “make magic” as the university’s spring commencement speaker on May 4, 2023, at 6:30 p.m. in the UCCU Center on UVU’s Orem Campus. (Read More)

Draper’s art scene soars to new heights

Salt Lake County Mayor Jenny Wilson and Draper Mayor Troy Walker dropped the curtain Tuesday on two new art installations overlooking the Price Lone Peak Business Park. The four unique cravens are made of bronze, each weighing 200 pounds. Three sit atop a 22-foot-tall feature over the entrance to the business park. The fourth craven holds a key perched on a 20-foot reclaimed historic Rio Grande/Union Pacific gantry beam that was repurposed for the project. (Read More)

• 1775 - Patrick Henry gives an impassioned speech wherein he proclaims “Give me liberty or give me death!”

• 1857 - Elisha Otis installs the first public elevator in New York City
• 1875 - The British survey ship, H.M.S. Challenger discovers the deepest known region of the Earth’s oceans when it made its first sounding of the Mariana Trench.
• 1882 - The Edmunds (Anti-Polygamy) Act is adopted by the US Senate and aimed squarely at the Utah Territory. 1300 men are later imprisoned under the act.
