It's Tuesday and it's Earth Day! 🌎

What you need to know

  • Pope Francis' is funeral set for Saturday, with numerous world leaders expected to attend, including Pres. Donald Trump and first lady Melania  Trump. Funeral services will be held in St. Peter's Square and the Pope will then be buried in the Basilica of St. Mary Major, about 2.5 miles outside the Vatican. Flags in Utah and across the country will fly at half-staff until his burial.

Gov. Cox signs executive order to strengthen wildfire preparedness across Utah

Gov. Spencer J. Cox has signed an executive order to enhance Utah’s wildfire preparedness and improve coordination among state, local, and federal partners ahead of the 2025 fire season... Executive Order 2025-02 establishes a new Working Group on Wildfire Management, composed of leaders from key state agencies. The group is tasked with identifying the highest-risk areas, improving coordination across jurisdictions, and submitting a report with recommendations to the governor by June 1, 2025. (Read More)


Utah House Democrats respond to court decision on ‘Utah Fits All’

The Utah House Democratic Caucus issued the following statement in response to the 3rd District Court’s ruling declaring the Utah Fits All program unconstitutional:

“We are grateful for the recent ruling from the 3rd District Court declaring the Utah Fits All voucher program unconstitutional. Utah Fits All lacks the oversight and accountability required of public schools yet still draws from taxpayer funds to benefit only a select few. This decision reinforces a core principle of our democracy: public funds must be used to support a strong, inclusive public education system accessible to every child in Utah." (Read More)


Utah Education Fits All reacts to District Court decision

Robyn Bagley, Executive Director of Utah Education Fits All, issued the following statement after 3rd District Court Judge Laura Scott ruled the Utah Fits All Scholarship “unconstitutional,” a decision the State has signaled it intends to appeal.

Gov. Cox orders flags to fly at half-staff in honor of His Holiness Pope Francis

Utah Gov. Spencer J. Cox has issued an order for the flags of the United States of America and the great state of Utah to be flown at half-staff on all state facilities in recognition of the passing of His Holiness Pope Francis.

Flags should be lowered to the half-staff position immediately and remain lowered until sunset on the day of interment. The Governor’s Office will send an additional notice indicating when flags may be returned to full-staff.

The governor extends an invitation to all private citizens, businesses, and organizations to participate in this recognition.
